DEDHAM, Mass. (Court TV) — A Friday hearing in a high-profile case, marked by courthouse protests and calls for a city audit, ended with a blogger being jailed to the sound of cheers in the courtroom. Karen Read stands accused of murdering her boyfriend, Boston Police Officer John O’Keefe, whose body was discovered in the snow outside the home of a fellow officer in Canton. Prosecutors allege that Read struck O’Keefe with her car, leaving him to die after driving away. However, Read’s defense team contends that O’Keefe was alive and well when she last saw him, accusing the police of orchestrating a conspiracy to frame her.
A Florida man accused of involvement in a fatal robbery is representing himself in court. Franklin “Ty” Tucker faces charges of robbery, homicide, aggravated assault, and battery in connection to an incident that claimed the life of Matthew Bonnett and left Paula Belmonte injured at a location known as “The Treehouse.”
In the Delphi case, the State Supreme Court reinstated the defendant's attorneys while leaving Judge Gull on the bench. The reinstatement was a critical step in safeguarding the defendant's right to fair and impartial due process, protection guaranteed to all regardless of their charges; as for the decision to retain Judge Gull, no legal or constitutional grounds were found to warrant her removal. However, the perception of bias from the bench could pose challenges for the defense in their interactions with the Judge. One can only hope these concerns do not influence the jury's perspective.
Tracy Ferriter initially filed a motion requesting a court-appointed attorney, citing a lack of funds. Her current attorney then petitioned to withdraw from the case, stating that new counsel had been arranged. However, when the judge declined to postpone Ferriter's trial beyond March, the attorney stepped down, explaining that he would not have sufficient time to prepare.
On June 15, 2023, the #LawCrimeNetwork featured host #MichelleYu and attorney #BobHollie discussing the high-profile murder trial of FL v. Jamell Demons, better known as YNW Melly. Demons stands accused of murdering two of his close friends. The case dates back to the early hours of October 26, 2018, when Demons and Cortlen Henry (YNW Bortlen) reportedly left a recording session with their friends Anthony "YNW Sakchaser" Williams and Christopher "YNW Juvy" Thomas. Around 4 a.m., Henry arrived at a Florida hospital with Williams and Thomas, who were both pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
Lori Vallow Daybell faces charges for the disappearance and horrific murder of her two children, 17-year-old Tylee Ryan and 7-year-old Joshua "JJ" Vallow, in 2019. Her husband, Chad Daybell, also accused in the case, is awaiting trial. This chilling story unravels a web of lies, alleged cult ties, evasion of authorities, and the suspected murders of Chad’s first wife and Lori’s former husband. Due to its notoriety, the trial was relocated to ensure an impartial hearing.
On June 7, 2023, at 1 PM, Guest Legal Analyst, Federal Law Enforcement Instructor, and Litigation Expert #SunnySlaughter appeared on #LawCrimeNetwork to discuss the case of School Resource Officer #ScotPeterson.
In 2018, Peterson faced accusations of failing to follow his training during the tragic shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Prosecutors allege that he stayed behind a covered position for at least 45 minutes while a gunman roamed the school halls, killing 14 children and three staff members and injuring 17 others. Now 60 years old, Peterson has pleaded not guilty to 11 charges, including seven counts of felony child neglect, three counts of culpable negligence, and one count of perjury related to the shooting and his subsequent statements.
Defendant #briankohberger has been accused of the horrific and brutal murder of four Idaho College students in Moscow, Idaho. The victims, who were all young students with bright futures ahead of them, were found in a shared off-campus home. This tragic case has sent shockwaves through the local community and beyond as authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding this devastating crime.
Human trafficking expert and former Homeland Security instructor Sunny Slaughter suggests that music mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs could potentially face federal charges, including sex trafficking, following raids on his properties. Combs, however, has denied all allegations, asserting that these claims are baseless attempts at extortion by individuals who have previously accused him of sexual assault.
On January 19, 2024, I will appear on Scripps Morning Rush to discuss the DOJ's Critical Incident Review of the tragic active shooter event at Robb Elementary School in May 2022. The report delivers a stark condemnation of the systemic failures in law enforcement operations that contributed to the devastating loss of more than a dozen children and two adults, the injury of many others, and the lasting heartbreak of an entire community and nation.
Understanding Red Flag Laws: what they are, how they work, where they’re implemented, and why they matter. In the aftermath of the recent mass shooting in Lewiston, Maine—where 18 lives were tragically lost and many others injured—alongside multiple shootings during Halloween celebrations nationwide, the urgency for deeper, more meaningful discussions on the root causes of gun violence has never been more apparent.
This devastating crisis arises from a complex web of factors: the effectiveness—or perceived failures—of law enforcement, the intricacies of the criminal justice system, political responses, public outrage, and the critical role of mental health, trauma, and untreated conditions. Gun violence isn’t just a statistic; it’s a pressing, multifaceted issue that demands both our attention and action.
Convicted murderer and escaped fugitive #DaneloCavalcante (now on the run for 11 days) has demonstrated a chilling combination of desperation and determination, making him even more dangerous than initially anticipated. Despite being pursued by over 400 federal, state, and local law enforcement officers, Cavalcante has managed to evade capture, raising questions about whether he’s receiving outside assistance. Reports indicate he has altered his appearance, stolen and abandoned a vehicle, and is now clean-shaven and dressed in fresh clothes—actions that suggest careful planning or possible support. Let’s hope this situation is resolved quickly and without further harm to anyone.
#MassShootings in #LewistonMaine: Suspect #RobertCard faces charges for eight out of the 18 counts of murder.
Scripps News has confirmed that Robert Card, the suspect behind the tragic mass shootings in Maine, has been found dead. During a Friday evening press conference, Maine law enforcement officials announced that Card's body was discovered at 7:45 p.m. EST near the Androscoggin River in Lisbon Falls. Public Safety Commissioner Michael Sauschuck reported that preliminary evidence suggests Card died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Earlier on Friday, shelter-in-place orders in the affected areas were lifted, allowing residents to resume their daily lives. Later that evening, temporary hunting restrictions in Lewiston, Lisbon, Bowdoin, and Monmouth were also rescinded.
