Sunny Slaughter is a law enforcement instructor for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Executive Leadership Seminar (ELS). She facilitates leadership development training for upper management leaders of law enforcement organizations accepted into the Florida Criminal Justice Executive Institute (FCJEI). She focuses on public safety investigations, practices, and public health responses using victim-centered approaches to address marginalized and vulnerable populations and communities interacting with law enforcement.
Sunny Slaughter is a law enforcement instructor, field training specialist, and consultant formerly with the US Department of Homeland Security, Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (DHS/FLETC-2008). She completed several specialized training programs, including the Domestic Violence Instructor Training Program, Drug Taskforce Supervisor School, and the Hate and Bias Crimes Course for sworn law enforcement. Sunny was also a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and consultant for the initial creation of the DHS Blue Campaign on Human Trafficking.
Sunny Slaughter has held the Co-chair position for the National Opioid Caucus and the Violence as a Public Health Issue Committee within the Southeast Region under the US Department of Health and Human Services-Office of Minority Health. Additionally, she has collaborated with law enforcement and families of missing or murdered individuals, participated in Human Trafficking task forces, and contributed as a national policy writer for the esteemed National Association of Social Workers.
An internationally recognized expert on crimes against persons, Sunny Slaughter has worked with global investment firms, spoken before international audiences, and contributed to international program research and evaluation. 2018, she contributed to the International Justice Mission's Assessment of Survivor Outcomes tool. Sunny has received several prestigious awards, including the 2020 Community Service Award from the APHA Black Caucus of Health Workers, the Power Belle Hat Award from Harry Belafonte/Southern Christian Leadership Foundation, Inc., and the 2015 Black Achievers Award. She is a fellow of the Morehouse School of Medicine and the Satcher Health Leadership Institute.
